Hong Kong police are searching for a man who stole a gold necklace worth nearly HK$80,000 (US$10,193) from a Chow Sang Sang jewellery store in Tai Po on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a source, the suspect, described as a man in his forties, entered the shop on Kwong Fuk Road around 3.10pm.

After asking to try on the necklace, which weighed more than a tael (37.5 grams or 1.3 ounces), he snatched it, fled towards Kwong Fuk Lane and boarded an airport-bound bus.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect did not appear to be armed, and no property was damaged during the incident.
